About the thread used
About wool strings
The materials of these chair pads are high quality slender merino wool strings used for Kimono and clothes. They are durable against tread pressure because they are twisted tightly. Those strings are being dyed at a dye-house in Aichi Prefecture.
Wool feels warm in the winter and dry in the summer because it’s good at holding warmth as well as absorbing moisture. That’s why you can use them comfortably in all seasons.

Cotton knotting
Other than wool knotting chair pads, you can also choose cotton. Vivid blue color is dyed by Koya (dyer specializing in dyeing navy blue color.) Indigo blue color is dyed by Aishi (professional group specializing in dyeing Indigo color.) Aishi grows indigo from seeds and then dry and ferment it to make Sukumo (natural dye made from indigo.) They dye strings again and again in a huge clay pot carefully controlling temperature and concentration. We call the process Aidate. Indigo is not only beautiful but also has an effect to increase durability and heat-retention. I am personally dyeing other colors using colcothar, or plants or nuts I have gathered.
※You can see cotton knotting chair‐rug‐mat at stores or exhibitions.
